♦ Ichiro becomes involved in a money laundering business, taking money from families in poverty.
♦ Enter the Hypnosis Microphone album / BB/MTC Chapter 2
♦ Zannen & Zansei Tobari organise various crimes such as kidnapping and (sex)trafficking.

Gender politics, misogyny, 'apparent misandry'

Gender politics
♦ The premise behind Hypnosis Mic is formed around the idea of men being subjugate by women, hence 'apparent misandry', though in daily life women do not actively commit acts of hatred against men because of their gender.
♦ Derogatory language has been used against women by background and main characters .

Homophobia and transphobia

Homophobia/transphobia
♦ Buster Bros!!! dramatracks
♦ Ichiro has made comments such as 'don't say anything gay/crazy' to his brother when arguing. The word used is a slur to homosexual people.
♦ Helter Skelter
♦ Urumi, who can be assumed is trans, is portrayed as coming onto Jiro, though is
♦ Urumi: Aren't we Mister Impatient. Isn't it more in line to make the mood first, especially when it's been so long? A man and a woman should be like that, no~?
Jiro: A man and a woman? It's a man and a man here, you know.

Human rights violation, human experimentation

♦ Ramuda is a human experiment. His poor condition is neglected as there are multiple Ramuda clones that can be disposed of.

Mental & personality disorders: depression, PTSD, self-harm, suicide

♦ Saburo is hinted at to be in a state of mental turmoil in Requiem.
♦ Jyuto takes out his anger on Samatoki, almost crashing their car, when reminded of the drugs issue - later shown relating to his parents' & police partner's deaths.
♦ Rio is hinted to have PTSD as a soldier from his personality.
♦ Gentaro is hinted at to have some sort of personality disorder, considering that he may be pretending to be somebody else.
♦ Dice has a gambling addiction that endangers his own life.
♦ Hifumi has trauma that has caused him to fear women.
♦ Doppo is heavily depressed and is often shown in such states, blaming himself for misfortunes in life.
♦ Rosho has a fear of public speaking related to trauma on stage.
♦ Kuko has indirectly caused a bully to commit suicide.
♦ Hitoya's brother has committed suicide.
♦ Jyushi suffers depression at the result of bullying.
♦ Hifumi's stalker self-harms and uses her blood in a letter for Hifumi. She tries to throw herself from a building and Hifumi jumps after her - though they're saved by a fall mattress.

Police corruption

♦ Jyuto's entire character is about being a corrupt policeman and he suffers no consequences from it. He is called out by Samatoki and Doppo but he shows no reaction to it.
♦ Ichijiku, as Chief of Police, finds it fit to dispose of whoever she wants, like Hitaki Tsumabira.

Politics, elitism, fascism

♦ The entire series is built around the matriarchal, elitist, dictatorship government that took power through a coup. The previous politicians were corrupt. Chuohku continues to prove elitist as only certain women may enter the walls of Chuohku, having to leave behind their families.
♦ The Division Rap Battles can be considered a fascist tool as they are used to subjugate and force men to fight among themselves for the entertainment of the elite.

Racism, gentrification

♦ Given the hiphop context of the series, this series can be considered appropriative of African American hiphop, though the series takes off of J hiphop.
♦ Break the wall
♦ "Any wall can be surmounted by the power of rap... [no matter] the color of one's skin or where they're from." Hinting towards issues of race existing within the universe.
♦ ARB
♦ There are ideas of gentrification in Ikebukuro.

A word that can be used in Japanese hiphop to mean your homie/friend etc. can be awfully translated to the N word by google translate, though it does not mean such.

Not within the series, but Ichiro Yamada's actor has blackfaced and mocked African lip plates - when fans asked for his apology, he has not given one.
DJ MITSU, composers of Bad Ass Temple Funky Sounds, made complaints about BLM protestors and their 'violence'.

Sexual abuse, sex trafficking

♦ Hifumi's trauma is theorised to be related to sexual abuse, though little hints have been given regarding this.
♦ BB/MTC Chapter 2
Samatoki stops the Tobari brothers' sex trafficking business. The girls are dressed in 'youthful' outfits.

♦ Gangsta's Paradise
♦ A word used in the song can be MISTRANSLATED to mean that Samatoki has sex, though this context should never be used as it would mean that Samatoki has raped people. The real line should mean that he has committed terrible acts, in reference to his job as yakuza.

Violence & death

♦ EXPLICIT VIOLENCE
♦ TDD Chapter 3
♦ Terrorists take over Jakurai's hospital. Multiple people are killed.
♦ TDD Chapter 7
♦ Gencho shoots a man in the kneecaps and throws him from the building.
♦ Ichiro and Samatoki puncture their eardrums so as not to hear the HypMic. Jakurai almost did it.
(Chapter 3)
♦ Samatoki kicks/beats the unconscious terrorists until he's stopped by Ichiro.
♦ FP/M Chapter 1
♦ Hifumi is pursued by a stalker who breaks into Hifumi & Doppo's apartment, stabbing/slashing Hifumi.
♦ Rhyme Anima Ep 1
♦ MTR stop a terrorist who hold a woman captive.

♦ DEATH
♦ Multiple deaths are talked about throughout the series:
♦ Samatoki, Jyuto, Ramuda, Dice, and Sasara may be responsible for some deaths. Rio, Jakurai, and Kuko are confirmed to be responsible for deaths.
♦ Samatoki's parents, Jyuto's parents, Jyuto's police-partner's deaths have been mentioned.
♦ A bully Kuko confronted, Hitoya's brother and Jyushi's grandmother have all had their deaths shown.
♦ Yotsutsuji (and possibly Gentaro's brother) are comatose/in ill health.

War & terrorism

♦ The entire premise is set around a post third world war that lasted two years. All characters would have had some experience of the war - though Saburo was most likely born in the last year according to the timeline.
♦ Rio was part of a covert military terrorist extermination squad.
♦ Jakurai was an assassin.
♦ Stairway to Heaven, originally taking in Ichiro, turn against him and use the younger Yamada brothers, Nemu Aohitsugi and multiple hostages in a terrorist plot.
